Create a culture of safety
One way for Singapore construction companies to avoid a fine is to make sure that you are following all safety standards at all times.
Following the safety rules when you’re aware of an upcoming inspection is not good enough. MOM has been known to conduct surprise inspections, so it’s crucial to make safety a part of your company’s culture.
Conduct regular risk assessments to determine potential hazards. For each hazard, ask yourself, “What can possibly go wrong?” and “What are the consequences if that happens?” Immediately put measures in place to control those risks.
Provide all of your employees with the proper safety equipment, such as harnesses, helmets, safety glasses, and the appropriate foot gear.

Generally, employees should work 8- to 12-hour shifts, and no more than 44 hours per week. They should only work more than 12 hours a day in rare emergency situations.
Extremely long hours can cause fatigue, impaired judgment, and lack of attention to detail, which can all result in unsafe behaviors.
Provide Acceptable Accommodations for Foreign Workers
Ensuring your foreign workers’ living conditions are up to par is another way for Singapore construction companies to avoid a fine.
If you offer lodging to employees who come from other countries, those accommodations must follow strict guidelines, including maximum occupancy, sanitary living conditions, proper bedding and adequate ventilation.
Singapore construction companies with employee housing that doesn’t meet the guidelines can be fined up to S$10,000.
